Mu Eta Voted Back On Campus by Drexel IFC

The Executive Committee is pleased to relay a message from Joshua Murphy, President of Drexel University's Interfraternity Council. Mr. Murphy informed the Committe that at the April 7 meeting of the IFC, Sigma Alpha Mu was approved to re-colonize at Drexel. More details will be posted as they are released.

Meeting Results

On February 12, 2008 Austin Craley ’82 and Matt Witenstein from Sigma Alpha Mu National made a presentation to the Drexel Greek Relations Board (undergraduate Greek Presidents) for their vote of support for our re-colonization (Drexel has given us their blessing and forgiven our debt completely). The vote will be that evening, and hopefully you’ll hear confirmation of our efforts. Larry Slivinski ’79 will be in touch with everyone on the 15th. HOWEVER we are planning an event during Drexel’s Blue and Gold Reunion Weekend for Saturday Afternoon May 3rd.

Green Light for Recolonization

On Jan 16, 2008 Bob Gronwald, Mike Masciandaro, and I met Steve Rupprecht of Drexel's Office of Student Conduct to discuss the details of coming back on campus. Lydia Kokoloskij from Drexel and Matt Witenstein of SAM National were also there. Although this meeting was uneventful, the Drexel basketball game afterward proved to be very fruitful. Unfortunately Mash and I left after the first half; but, during the second half, Lydia introduced Bob Gronwald to Jim Tucker, Sr Vice President, Student Life and Administrative Services and David Ruth, Dean of Students. Bob had good discussions with both Mr. Tucker and Dean Ruth on our efforts, the bottom line being Mr. Tucker forgave any debt and welcomed Sammy back on campus for this Fall. We're now moving forward. The next step will be for Austin Craley and Matt Witenstein to attend the next IF Council meeting and get their formal vote of approval for returning. Stay tuned. If all goes per plan, we should be recruiting new brothers Fall.

Meeting Set to Discuss Recolonization with Drexel

After 3 and 1/2 years of trying (not to mention the work done by Doosey and Krizner back in the summer of 1999!), we are finally getting a meeting with the right Sr. Vice President at Drexel (as we have been led to believe). Each of you has played a roll in this monumentous effort. Austin and Newt have diligently kept the Department of Student Life happy since August of 2006, while I have bitched, moaned, and threatened all my contacts at Alumni Relations and Undergraduate Admissions to act on our behalf. HOPEFULLY, this game of Good Cop Bad Cop has worked.

Matt Witenstein of our National Office and I are meeting with the Sr. VP of Student Life in two weeks. We have a 4:30 meeting with his second in command on Wednesday January 16th. We are finalizing a meeting with the Sr. VP himself (James Tucker) for that day or evening. If ANY of you can attend, we would welcome the show of "FRIENDLY FORCE". Plus, there is a Drexel Basketball Game that evening, and if you have never had the chance to rub elbows with President Papadakis, well here is your chance! We will be discussing our donation to a Greek Life related charity (and possibly the creation of a Sigma Alpha Mu Scholarship Fund), the availability of local chapter houses (The Palace is still in the picture, but we would have to rehab the Old Pi Lam house for the sorority gals), and our Capital Fundraising Campaign to be created jointly with Alumni Relations (they pay for all the admin costs). So we would enjoy seeing any of you OLD DOGS. Can Hackman still pitch? Our next step will be to have a meeting of our steering committee (all you guys that can still drive to Philly), to plan a large Spring event on campus to kick off the Capital Campaign and Fall Rush 2008 details. Just drop me an email with your thoughts.
